Respite care
A trained caregiver steps in so family caregivers can rest, planned or short-notice.
Family caregiving is a marathon run at sprint pace. Respite care means a trained staff person takes over for a few hours, a day, or longer so you can sleep, travel, work, or simply breathe while your loved one stays safe and cared for.
What it looks like
- Care in the person's own home or out of the home.
- Planned, recurring relief, or short-notice coverage when life happens.
- Staff briefed on routines, medications, and what comfort looks like for this person.
- Honest notes afterward, so you know exactly how it went.
Who it's for
Any family caregiver running on fumes. Most families tell us the same thing after their first respite visit: "We should have done this months ago."
How it's paid for
Respite is covered by Minnesota's waiver programs (CADI, DD, BI, CAC, and the Elderly Waiver), typically at no cost to the family. Your case manager authorizes the hours; we help you use them well.
